From paper pile to structured data.
However the receipt arrives, scan-ai reads it the same way: vendor, totals, taxes, and every line item, with a confidence score on the fields that matter so nothing slips through quietly.
Three ways in
Snap a photo of a paper receipt from your device, upload a PDF — including multi-page PDFs — or forward an email confirmation to your private code@in.scan-ai.ca address. Whatever the source, it lands in the same pipeline.
Full field extraction
AI OCR reads vendor, date, time, location, currency, total, subtotal, tax, discount, payment method, and the last 4 card digits — plus every line item with name, quantity, unit price, line total, and unit for weight or volume.
Confidence you can see
Store, date, and total each get a 1–5 confidence score, and the image gets a quality score, so a faded thermal slip that read poorly is flagged for a quick glance instead of quietly going wrong.
One scan, every field — down to the line item.
Most tools stop at the total. scan-ai’s AI OCR keeps going: vendor, date, time, location, currency, subtotal, tax, discount, payment method, and the last 4 digits of the card. Then it reads the body of the receipt — each line item with its name, quantity, unit price, line total, and the unit for items sold by weight or volume.
OCR is never certain, so scan-ai is honest about it. Store, date, and total each carry a 1–5 confidence score and the image gets a quality score, so a low-confidence read is flagged for a glance rather than silently filed wrong.
- Vendor, date, time, location, and currency
- Total, subtotal, tax, discount, and payment method
- Every line item with quantity, unit price, and unit
- 1–5 confidence on store, date & total, plus an image-quality score
Catches duplicates and sorts by entity.
Forward the same Amazon email twice, snap a receipt you already photographed — scan-ai detects likely duplicates and groups them together, so you don’t end up double-counting a single purchase.
Run more than one business? It suggests which entity a receipt belongs to as it processes, so personal and business spend stay in their own lanes. Each receipt moves from “processing” to “ready” on its own — no button to press, no queue to babysit.
- Likely duplicates detected and grouped
- Suggested business entity per receipt
- Status moves processing → ready automatically
- Multi-page PDFs read as a single receipt

How do I get a receipt into scan-ai?
Three ways: snap a photo of a paper receipt from your device, upload a PDF (including multi-page PDFs), or forward an email confirmation to your private code@in.scan-ai.ca address. Whatever the source, it lands in the same OCR pipeline and is read the same way.
What does scan-ai pull off each receipt?
AI OCR extracts the vendor, date, time, location, currency, total, subtotal, tax, discount, payment method, and the last 4 digits of the card. It also reads every line item with its name, quantity, unit price, line total, and the unit for things sold by weight or volume.
How does scan-ai handle a blurry or faded receipt?
Store, date, and total each get a 1 to 5 confidence score, and the whole image gets a separate 1 to 5 quality score. A low-confidence read or a poor-quality photo is flagged for a quick glance instead of being filed silently, so you can fix it before it counts.
Does scan-ai file my taxes or connect to my bank?
No. scan-ai reads receipts you capture by photo, PDF, or forwarded email, it does not connect to a bank account or import transactions. It also does not file your taxes. It structures the data and suggests categories, but you stay in control of filing.
